"Celebrating Austin’s iconic weirdness—there’s never ever been a song like this."
Long before “Keep Austin Weird” became a slogan, Sankarshan Das was living it—he is, in fact, its personification. In the 60’s he stuck his neck out to be weird in Austin at a time when it was considered highly taboo to break out of the mold and be different.
A singer-songwriter and bhakti yogi who once shared the stage with Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, he has spent over five decades bringing his message of higher consciousness all over the world and to Austin’s streets, festivals, and homes. Through chanting, music, and fearless spiritual expression, he’s turned heads—and hearts—showing that being weird means more than standing out: it means refusing to be just a cog in the machine and boldly stepping out for making the world a better place. His unique fusion of bhakti yoga and grassroots activism has sparked a movement of mindful rebellion that still pulses through Austin today.
